Hi guys...Found this stamp (any many others, still looking ) in a box of world wide stamps...To my eye it looks salmon coloured..But Scott does not show that colour..I enhanced the stamp and placed it against the normal scan..Can anyone give me an idea what Scott number it might be..Thanks. Robert

Hi Wert,
It looks like a rose or light rose to me, which would make it a Scott 65. Of course, color appearances can vary based on scanners and monitors, but this is definitely NOT one of the pink shades.
Love the cancel!

excellent info shown above--Would love to find a Pigeon Blood Pink in a box of postcards for a buck! Isn't there also a book by Rose, I think covering all these? The guy spent most his life studing these--not sure on name, but someone knows-- I have used this color gauge for many years-found it on the internet-hope this helps |

Among experts, is there a comforting level of inter rater reliability when it comes to differentiating some these (eg., dull red v pink) in real life? Also, what are Pompeii colors? |

RK1468, Pompeii colors are the colors on some of the walls of Pompeii. For instance, Benjamin Moore makes a paint called "Pompeii red".

What do you guys think of these three? Comparing them to the color chart above (I know they are hard to distinguish online...), it looks like 65 - 65 - 64 (left to right). |

Can you really match up the ink color of those stamps with the color chip pads? I mean those stamps are over 100 years old and we know how the ink fades and breaks down over the years not counting all the variables that can happen or that can come into play? Also some of the ink used back then are not available now days and actually some ran out before the next batch was even mixed back then. Last one batch from the next batch wouldn't be the same exact color. |

I agree the color chip pad is rather useless... I was referring to the examples posted by Ciletaliph in the thread above. Comparing mine to those, it looks like I have two 65s and one 64. |
