This is a recent "find" in an APS sales circuit...

This is a closeup of the stamps.

Very nice cover.

For your curiosity, a vertical strip of three # 24's, M OG H, sold on ebay this morning for $ 212.60. The perfs were beet up on its left and
probably reperfed on its right side. The back did not look very good either. I bid up to $64.40. I would rather have bid on your cover.
Good luck with it. I love strips of the one cent Franklins.

rlm, The perfs are probably good on that strip. I wish I had seen it because I may have bid higher. It is not at all an ordinary strip. They are 42-52-62R9. The 52R9 is the best double transfer on all of the Type V plates and actually pretty hard to find. The example in this strip essentially shows all of what you want to see in the position.

Double Wow!

I loved that strip, however I have always read to be skeptical of this
seller. I thought I saw almost too good perfs on the right. Of course
there is the fact that I would not have seen that double transfer even I was looking for it!!

Wouldn't it need to be a vertical strip for those plate positions? Any chance of larger scans of each?

rlm, You should absolutely be skeptical of that seller but that does not mean you can't get nice items from them. It just means that you absolutely have to know what you are bidding on and be able to recognize a problem. There probably isn't a seller on ebay that has attempted to, or fleeced more collectors than that seller.

am I the only one who thinks those stamps were not on that cover and were added later?

My mistake, I missed the link and thought you were referring to the cover by the OP.

I think the stamps look good for originating on the cover. Before the regulations were relaxed PM's were supposed to cancel stamps using killers without allowing the killer ink to extend onto the cover. The postmark was the only marking supposed to be on the cover, and was not to be used to cancel stamps. This cover looks to be one of those that adhered to those rules.

I get what you are saying dudley, however I thought the holes between the perfs on stamps 2 and 3, were _too_ clean. It could just be my screen/scan.

I'd say the ink did not reach the paper there because of the thickness of the stamps.

I know many have warned about this seller. It is true that stamps are misidentified somewhat frequently, but it has worked both ways. I picked up a #13 from this seller that was misidentified as #15 and allowed me to pick it up for relatively cheap. So, if you know what you're looking for, you can also get good deals. I do wish he/she updated their camera/scanning equipment, though.

After taking a better look at the vertical strip, even with my
untrained eyes, I can clearly see the double transfer.

If I ever get to see that or similar strip again, I will credit this thread for knowing what to do. Can't cry over spilled milk.
