I bid on a lot described as US Scott 499 at ebay. It is not a 499. Today I got an email cancelling the sale.

"Dear eBay Community Member,
The bid that you entered for the item (351913512953) has been cancelled. You can view the reason provided for the cancellation by selecting the (bid history) link from the individual item page.

Please be cautious if you are contacted about purchasing this item after the bid has been cancelled and as always avoid paying for your eBay item using instant wire transfer services through Western Union or MoneyGram as these payment methods are unsafe when paying someone you do not know."

The start bid was 1 cent. I think the item is a SC 449 NH line pair - CV is $30,000 in my 2010 Specialized. It would have been a good score! I am not 100% sure it is a type-1 - any opinions?

I think it is a gorgeous pair but do not know much about the stamps. However, I think it is criminal to cancel a lot once it has been bid on. It has happened to me and I am still burned about it. I will not do any business with the outfit that did this to me.

It looks like a type one, as best I can tell. Once I had a bid canceled on a 460 or 478 on cover that was listed as a 518. Someone probably notified the seller as to what the pair could be and he canceled the listing.

I personally see no problem with an eBay seller cancelling a listing, even if bids have been placed, if the lot has been erroneously identified, as long as this applies to incorrect ID's that would benefit the seller as well as those that would benefit the buyer.

You can't from this really tell from this image. The medallion and rope seem to fit, but there are other identifying features that you can't see here. Particularly the right ribbon.

Since the seller cancelled I guess we'll never know the outcome.
