I got this stamp in a collection. Any ideas how it got the weird perorations? There are no creases visible on the back of the stamp. thanks Joe

Looks like the sheet got folded like an accordion before perforating, when straightened out the perfs to a zig-zag. are there creases where the perfs change direction? |

I don't see how it could be a folded sheet where there are no creases visible on the back. |

Unless it is as Tipzi asked.. Quote: are there creases where the perfs change direction? |

I'm inclined to think it is someone playing with some kind of perf machine. First photo is just of the back of the stamp. second one is in stamp fluid. I don't see any creases indicating a fold-over. |

The one thing that gives me pause is are the two straight edge angle cuts; can you tell if they are cut on the same angle? Have you been able to check the perfs to see if they are the same on all sides? I tried to do this digitally but am not confident without the stamp in hand. DOn |

I just check the stamp with my multi-gauge. the cuts are not parallel.
All the perfs, including the random ones, look like they are actually perf 11.9, which seems standard for this issue. |

it was probably the last set that went thru got twisted, the bell rang they thru the sheet onto the pile and it was shipped and sold. I work in printing and this stuff happens. if it's the last that went thru there would be no crease. all depends on if the perfed then sheeted or sheeted then perfed. |

Is it possible that someone simply used scissors to cut the stamp away from adjacent stamps so they could use it. That could explain why the even edges are not parallel. |
