This http://www.ebay.com/itm/US-Banknote...p=true&rt=nc struck me as a rather clever way to present fancy cancels by superimposing mounted stamp over full image of the cancel. Probably a good teaching tool as well. Suspect this must be common but I've not seen it before....

cool display. I like this.

But I'm totally shocked by the high price these likely non-sound stamps fetched!!

rgstamps,

You may have missed the notation to the right at the bottom of the image. If that is a grilled 24c, Scott 142, the price paid, even if the stamps are less than sound, isn't so outrageous after all.

Just my thoughts on the matter...

Oh... I didn't see that. Of the 8 stamps, is one of them grilled 142? I couldn't tell from listing. If there is a grill, then it was a steal!!

A fake grill wouldn't be out of the question with this seller. Also, you can be sure there were plenty of shill bids, maybe even the winner was a shill. Avoid that seller!
