If a professional stamp dealer is not embarrassed by putting this up for sale, http://www.ebay.com/itm/300-312-ALM...AOxy0bRTAuI9 , the only other explanation is larceny.

OK, I'll act as dramaturge for those of us not expert in this issue. What's the problem here?

300-312 are perf 12
The "312" included in this group is perf 10, thus a cheaper 479.
Not sure why it could not have been explained in the OP???

Thanks John! I have no problem with chasa addressing an expert-level audience. Glad to pick up this bit of knowledge ... as I promptly head to my own 300-313 set to check out the perfs.

He corrected the listing. Bill is an honest dealer in my experience.

To put it another way, if a professional stamp dealer needs collectors to correct his "errors", that doesn't speak highly of the individual, in my humble opinion.

Chasa, What is wrong with that one? Looks correct?
bookbndrbob - I get your point, but he's a big business - he has 77,000 listings on eBay this morning. Personally I'm not willing to demand perfection. An occasional mistake is to be expected - and as long as they are honest and correct that, I'm not sure I could ask for more.

I agree that this seller is hard working and knowledgeable and I also concur that everyone makes mistakes. But I don't recall ever seeing a listing error that favored the buyer with this seller.

In fairness, this is also the trend with many other seller eBay sellers.

I too have had only good dealings with this seller. I don't know how his day-to-day operations are organized, but he seems to have a huge inventory to manage and the occasional error seems inevitable.

I have given up on eBay. No cert, no sale from me for anything over 30$ on eBay. I know that poll shows that most buy from eBay now but this is ridiculous. Even certs on eBay are questionable from "good sellers".

Stick with major auction houses. SAN (stampauctionnetwork) is way more fun site to comb auctions than eBay is anyway.

Major auction houses make errors too, and when they do, you have none of eBay's or PayPal's buyer protections, just their policies. Plus they charge hefty commissions. There is no single universal solution for everyone - other than being an educated buyer.

There is a solution... we need someone willing to take on an eBay, get large enough, and offer buyer protection. Money back guarantee if bought through the site. In order to put your stamps on site, you have tof offer 90 day money back guarantee or whatever buyer protection deemed policy by the site. SAN may be only shot going but massive numbers of stamp buyers have to be on board or there is no leverage to offer buyer protection. Spink, Siegel, kelleher, etc etc will all leave SAN unless they need SAN. My guess is more and more is being sold thru SAN and eventually SAN will have the leverage to force guarantees to buyers using its site. I hope this can happen. eBay has not fulfilled my needs for collecting US classics in sound condition

A wonderful listing from a "major auction house" for your entertainment:

(in case it isn't obvious to you - the stamp is misidentified as a Scott 90.)
