 Here he is going to Austria on the 30c small banknote from the "no triangles" series.  Can anyone make out the town name in the cancel? Let's see the Jefferson stamps and covers in your collection!

It appears that the cancel slipped causing a double strike in the area of the town name. I can't make out all of the letters it appears to be "SOSTO**D. Hopefully, someone else has a better eye, or better guess.

 Considering we are in the midst of Washington's Birthday "week" (based on whether you look at birthdates from the old style or new style calendar or the Monday Holiday observance), I find it interesting that (according to Wiki) the State of Alabama recognizes the 3rd Monday in February as Washington and Jefferson Day (even though Thomas Jefferson's birthday isn't until April)! |

Interesting isn't it wt1? We build our memorials and talk about 'truth' (note the interesting link to the visual here...)  ...but sometimes will still alter history to meet our needs. - sorry, sounding cynical. must be lunch time! |

On the lighter side, here's a US postal card UX27 along with a Washington prexxie.   Doesn't appear Mr. Jefferson is on speaking terms with his colleague Mr. Washington. The note on the back is addressed to the writer's kids, and tells them not worry about him, that his pension kicks in starting January 1 1940 and that will add nicely to his income. "Think I will buy a goat." Good planning. |
