Red Grid Cancel On Scott US #2

I've seen a few Scott #2s with red grid cancels selling at prices lower than I would have expected given the condition of the stamps and ample margins. Are these types of cancels considered less desirable than other types? Is there a good reference book for cancels on early U.S. stamps to help with distinguishing between less and greater value examples? Thanks in advance.

Scott Specialized shows a price breakdown of cancellations in 9 different colors and 16 different auxiliary markings. Black then red the lowest priced.

The red grid is quite common, and often obliterated much of the designs. Those would be my reasons to justify the lower pricing.

On the Scott number 2, the red cancel is the most common cancel as it stands out the most and the greatest concern of the PO at this time was the re-use of stamps. Other than the Scott Specialized Catalogue there is no guide to the differences in value for the different color cancellations. In my experience a true green cancellation (think Kelly green) is always worth more than the Scott Catalogue value. There is no mordern work that gives you rarity factors for cancellations on the the 1847 issue, however, Tom Alexander's "Simpson's US Postal Markings, 1851-61" will show some of the cancellations that are found on 1847 issues as well as 1851-7 issues.
