This cover is from (barely legible) Alfred Muckle, Cotton Factor, Commission Merchant, The Strand, Galveston, Texas, with a 3 cent Scott 65 stamp. Is there any extra value for the star on the cancellation? Thanks for any help!
Star cancellations are relatively common in this time period. Given the condition of the cover the cancellation would probably make the difference between selling and not selling the cover, but would only add a very modest amount to value.
wtcrowe: Thanks for your response. I was looking these items up for a woman I know. I had already told her that due to the condition, I didn't think any of her stamps had any value and weren't anything I could use, but I wanted to make sure I had turned over every stone, so to speak. So now I can definitely tell her that. It's such a shame because she had a couple of fairly interesting stamps, but had allowed mint sheets to become stuck together so that the only way I could think of to get them apart was to soak them thus destroying the gum. Too much trouble for no value as far as I was concerned. So thanks again for your help. I still want to read about grills though! Dot
