Type II 8A - Cartel Craziness

I am more interested in knowing about this stamp.

Just looking at the Pair, does that look like a genuine type 2?

Seller doesn't offer returns either... But shill bidding going on as usual..

Its a somewhat close call. The left stamp is definitely Ty II, the right stamp is probably also a Ty II.

In general, if you can see any remnant of a top or bottom line, no matter how faint, then it is not considered broken. Often, those determinations are best made in person, to be sure that no-one has scraped off the line to weaken it, for example. That's sometimes hard to tell from a 2-dimensional scan.

I would err on the side of being conservative here, and call the right stamp Ty II - for now - but it probably is anyway. The next step would be to plate the pair, and study the position in general, and see how it wore. Compare other examples to this one to make a final determination. Probably a plate 2 item - its a pair of A reliefs from Transfer roll #1.

You would be surprised at how many normally intelligent people fall for this kind of listing. eBay has many buyers convinced (brainwashed?) that they will always be protected.
While he does indeed get a fair amount of returns he also manages to park many of his listings on unsuspecting collectors. Some simply do not catch on to his altered and misidentified stamps; just mounting them in their albums (finding out months or years later they were probably taken). Others give up on trying to return material to him and/or are too embarrassed to admit they were taken by him. Some get very anger; I have 3 emails from collectors who said they were dropping out of the hobby after being taken by him.

With the shift in the way people buy stamps now, from the internet, with eBay being held up as a primary point of sale for the new generation of collectors, that makes this type of thing all the more unfortunate.

If he sells to a real bidder then he makes a good profit against what was paid for the item.

If it goes to one of his shill accounts the money gets transferred to another account (this money is from the proceeds of other crimes) and hence then becomes "clean" or legitimate.

He makes his real profits in other illegal business and uses the fake eBay sales to move the money to his associates (or himself) (launders it - "makes it clean").

Later he can re-sell the same item since presumably he still has it, ad infinitum.

I have had several deals with this seller, some average but a couple really outstanding. I recommend them, no problems at all.

Other than buying larger lots or collections, the thought of buying any single philatelic item for more than 500$ on Ebay (or even from a reputable philatelic auction house) without a legit certificate accompanying it, makes me go into a seizure (with vomiting!)

I'm sorry, but even the advanced collectors, spending large amounts of money on rare philatelic single items wthout a cert, is an exercise in getting ripped off!.

No problem here throwing 24$, 50$, 100$ or even 250$ (risky) down on something without a cert....but cmon, 1000$, 2000$ without a cert. Absurd!

Unlikely that any will be forthcoming. And if any actually did show up, they would require extreme vetting.

Referencing ONLY the pair of #7's that started this thread, the thing I find most appalling is that a lovely pair like this isn't in a collection owned by someone that appreciates them.
