I'm hoping to find, an illustration of the hand held transfer roller, used to rock the image onto the plate.

Hoping to add it to a page in my "1851-57 Three Cent" album.

Thanks for any help.

stampcrow - are you looking for an image of a stamp transfer roll or specifically of the transfer roll for the 3 cent 57? There is a transfer roll here - https://invertedjenny.com/production (about half-way down the page). As far as I know, there are no images of the transfer roll for the 3 cent '51 (or any of the very early US Stamps). There are some illustrations of what the transfer roll might have looked like in the USPCS 1851 sesquicentennial book and the Frajola / Mayer 5 cent book, and probably other places.

SPQR thank you.

I am hoping for an image of the three relief roller used specifically for the 1851 3 cent plates.

That USPCS 1851 Sesquicentennial book is excellent. I was able to scroll through it online just now. Doing so, I learned about a "T Relief"...You never know when you'll learn something new.

There aren't any images to be had of any of the transfer rolls for the Toppan Carpenter stamps and only our best guess on how they were arranged or even made for that matter. The transfer roll would have been used with a transfer press, not operated by hand.

Oops, I was under the impression (pun intended) that the three reliefs were mounted on a roller that was rocked by hand against the plates.
