I agree with stampcrow and where he may be going here?
impression and striking red color suggests more proof-like than stamp like.
I'm definitely thinking proof but I don't study this issue like many others on this forum... |

looks more like the Scarlet reprint Scott #41, but color is wrong (not scarlet). Too red!
I still think it could be a proof

It is definitely a proof from the reprint plate.
The die for this stamp has tessellated work impinging on the white oval around the portrait. When transfer rolls were made from the die, they were retouched by hand to make a clean white oval all the way around. The reliefs on each transfer roll can all be distinguished from each other. This one is from the roll used to make the reprint plate. |
