Need Help With Blueish Paper For This Stamp Scott 359

Is this bluish paper it s 1909 purple 3 cent type 1 washington-deep violet???

lumhechati, I do not believe it is. Bluish paper looks more grey and the best way to tell is on an orange background.

The paper may look more bluish on the back because of the dark purple ink on the front of the stamp rather than there being any rag content in the paper which is what makes it the true blue paper variety.

Yes, the paper is more grayish than blue. The 10c and 15c white papers (with yellow and pale blue printing respectively) can easily fool anyone.

A further test is that on bluish papers, the watermark is very clear and identifiable when held to the light. In fluid, the watermark is also very much clearer than on white paper stamps.

Hey thank you under microscope looks like newspaper type paper I'll search it I think my lighting is not right.I agree with you you know more than I if this were I diamond or Morgan dollars I'd know or Swiss watch movements

Lumhechati, if/when you are sure enough that they are blue papers, the only way to know for sure is to invest the money for certification, so they would "officially" be blue papers.

You might also bring them with you to a show or bourse, where several dealers would have a blue paper in their stock and you could compare yours. Or you could buy a reference copy off of eBay....358 can be purchased reasonably.

Anyone here can give an opinion, and you can have yours. Mine is that no amount of enhancing light is going to prove that your stamps are blue papers. You need a comparison with a known copy, or someone to see the stamp in hand that knows these issues well.

And no one noticed that the stamp is perf 11 instead of perf 12 and is a dubious color more characteristic of a type II or a type III or type IV offset printing? One clear scan or a high-resolution photographic image is needed instead of multiple blurred eBay-style cell phone images. It is not unknown for fakers to dye used stamps to make the paper look blue, often without realizing that bluish paper looks gray in comparison to normal paper.
