Hello everybody, what about this dot in the right ribbon, is this already something that lets you think of a type Ia? I give also another detail photo. I know the stamp is in a bad shape because of the crease, but my question here is not because of the value but because of the type learning. stamperix

If the color of the first picture is true, then this is not #500. #500 must be a deep rose color. The key to identifying #500 is that the outline of the button below Washington's neck is very bold. This stamp does not have that. Please have a look at: http://www.usphila.com/us/stamp/pri...t-500-page-1 |

Sure it is not perf 12 (that would make it #406)? The cancel obscures the ribbon and button, but it looks more like Type I to me. Here is previous listing talking about Type I vs Type Ia: http://goscf.com/t/46191 |

The stamp is perf 12, type I. I agree with lukusw that it's a Scott 406. |

hy-brasil, #500 is found in Carmine, Deep Carmine, Carmine Red, Rose Carmine, Carmine Rose, Pale Rose, Rose and Deep Rose. See The United States Specialist, August 1995 article by Ken Lawrence. |

Oh what a beginner's fault :). I was so much focussed on the type under my loupe that I just didn't check perforation. Yes, it's perf 12. But for me the lines at the toga were too strong for a type I so I wondered what type it could be else, and then thought of Ia as there is this dot in the right ribbon. But as there is no Ia with perf12, it's all clear now. |
