Another idea may have been to get an old large highway/Nat. Geo map of the US.
Fold over the Eastern states until Chicago is at the fold. Then highlite Route 66 in yellow, then mount the stamp to the map then draw a line connecting them to PO's location. Finally place or make a large Route 66 placing over Oregon & Washington states, with possible stamp size emblems over the route between cities.

If I could help you with the Nat"king" Cole FDC I would..i do not remember seeing much of the stamp on letters..have seen few if any of the FDC...if you still need one when the big show in Albany starts Sept 25 I will get you one..there will be no shortage of U.S. First Day Cover dealers !!

Phil,
I can always count on you. I haven't been able to find a stand alone FDC for this stamp. I've seen a few combo covers. I had even contacted a jazz/music topical collector whom didn't have one. I will gladly pay you for a cover. Thanks for the offer.

Stamperdude
Great display and great suggestions from the members.
I have displayed in the past at local shows and was always
Gratified with the positive comments.
my subjects were mostly topical or odd ball and did not warrant
"Judging"
Enjoy your stamps ,That what is Important.

David,
I don't think my display will warrant judging either. There are many faulty stamps & I don't have a completed list. I do enjoy my stamps and uncovering a new addition. I'm still trying to figure out how to add informative text on the pages. So far it just looks like any other album page. It is hard to find time to put this together between work, household chores, and a 3 year old.

OK I finally made some time to complete the remaining pages for my Route 66 precancel collection pages. I had teased everyone with the 2 pages of Illinois. Now here are the remaining states moving East to West: Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California.

For the frame I have it will only fit these 8 pages. I don't think there will be room for a title page. I am going to have to see if I can get another frame or two so that I can display some covers and postcards. Also, the frame doesn't have a tripod or table top stand, I'm going to have to check into that.

Dude, your pages are great..but I think the viewers will expect to see some written descriptions or a little story about what you are exhibiting...but you may have already thought of that..you show good imagination..i have never exhibited..i hope those that have will comment !!

I really like the idea of tying the precans to a road map. One thought on a way to do it would be to "index" the precans to the map as done on the map location indices or maybe just a simple numbering system to cross-index them to the map. Also I really believe that your viewers do need some kind of Title page will an explanatory narrative or they will bypass the exhibit without a second thought, collector or not.

That is such an interesting exhibit. I've never thought about collecting the precancels that way. There are just so many that it's overwhelming.
I too would like to see pictures of your exhibit when it's finished and set up. Also maybe you could start another thread with a few interesting shots of things happening at your stamp show.
Maybe others here would have some photos of a show they have been to, or their club. Example, interesting exhibits, special awards, or anything fun that's happening for the day or evening.

Thank you all for the words of encouragement and suggestions. I will be working on my title page next. I still may use a map and point out most of the towns I've gathered so far as they appear along the highway. As far as I know this might be the only frame displayed, since our show is actually a bourse (no judged exhibits). I do have a cover that has a Radiator Springs cachet and is signed by Michael Wallis the voice of Sheriff and author of Route 66 The Mother Road. I'll have to post a scan of it later.
