What a great job on this thread and the explanations and scans of the caps. Kudos to everyone involved. GREAT THREAD

Taking wt1's lead, I visited the eBay listing of this stamp and yes,

The seller's comments make for a very interesting read on an "only known" PF certified copy as being genuine

If you haven't yet done so, take wt1's lead and go visit the eBay listing via the link on wt1's post. It will be well worth your time and effort.

Thanks you philb for starting this exciting thread!

Yes, GREAT thread! Thanks all! This thread reminded me that I had perched a small lot of these stamps a few months ago and had never gone thru them. I know these aren't rare but just had to share what I found:

Have a great philatelic day!

Thank you Mike33! Now let's hope that there is a cap on both 2's and/or on the right cap on the lot of several hundred that I just purchased!

Just as an update to this old thread -- which dates back to 2009 -- the "cap over right 2" stamp (Scott 220b) has now resurfaced again. It was originally selling at $12,500 (2011) then for no apparent reason was relisted at $95,000 (2014). Today, it's selling for $100,000 (still with free shipping). I guess it hasn't yet gotten through to the seller that it's overpriced!

...And the bottom perfs look funny to me. The seller should have put the "Best Offer" option on this one.

Here's the cert...

And oops...here's another cap on right two! Now there's two in the world! This will blow his sale for sure if anyone finds out. Shhhh.

If the seller had *any* smarts whatsoever, he would add Best Offer
to see if there are any serious buyers out there, and at what level...

Meanwhile... while everyone chatters on about caps on the 220, most
especially when it could be on the right 2...

There exists another 220 rarity, unknown to most collectors, *and*
experts... (seen below)

There's only 1 'acknowledged' copy of a cancel in a book on 220's
which essayk has mentioned, and an unused copy, which I own, shown
below... far rarer than the 220a or 220c, and easily in the class
with the 220b, however there has not, to date, been enough notoriety
on it to elevate it to the status it certainly is deserving of...

There's not that many multiples with caps out there, compared with
the general population, but usually readily available on Ebay in both
used and unused...

Given it's the major acknowledged variant of the 220...

Retail-wise (not taking the straight edge into consideration your
strip of 3 has a current cat value of somewhere around $100...
