In researching to find the auction of the day at the top of the forum I've noticed something a little odd.

It seems that feedback for stamp sellers seems to be, on average, a little lower than coin sellers. I see a lot of 98.7, 99.2, 99.4 and such for stamp sellers. More often than with coin sellers it seems.

Any ideas on a reason for this?

Not sure. The stereotype is that stamp collectors are stingy, grouchy old men who love to gripe.

Looks like we've come to the right place! Though going by some recent auction prices, some stamp collectors really don't care what they spend on their hobby.

Of course, the classic stingy, grouchy, griping old man was a coin collector and all around money hoarder, Scrooge McDuck, who was Donald Duck's cheap and avaricious Uncle Scrooge of Disney cartoons and comic books.

And the observation made is based on some selected picks. I don't suppose there is a way of getting an overall average of ratings for all stamp sellers and all coin sellers on eBay.

Hello everyone.....

I've been buying and selling on ebay about four years and the overwhelming majority of people I've dealt with have been great. The only two negative experiences I've had have were from two non-paying bidders. (I've been keeping track and I've had dealings with people in 42 states and 26 foreign countries.) In my opinion I have found that stamp collectors in general, are a decent bunch of folks.

I've done about 50-60 transactions and all of my stamp buying experiences on ebay have been positive. I suspect, the negative feedback might be caused by a few collectors with "oversensitive gums". Since sellers seldom scan and post the gum side, that's one area that the buyer can be surprised with.

Hi guys

I'm new to the ebay experience but have found so far that it has been a good one. The buyers have been very patient with a newbee like me and the product and service so far has been great.

Of course I've learned from my better half (who is a seasoned buyer to watch out for things like shipping cost etc.. and have signed on to paypal to make the transactions run smoothly.

I have always thought that the negative feedback was a very potent tool..only to be used when all out war is about to break out..if I throw the first punch I better be ready for what comes back..some people use it without thinking and do not realize they can be responded to in turn !!

I've never used negative feedback, but I have graded mid-range, and once I emailed the seller to tell them I was displeased with their description (or to be precise - the accuracy of their description). It wasn't a surprise, but I never heard back from them. Obviously, I'll never do business there again.

I had a buyer who upon recieving his stamp(s) immediately submitted negative feedback without even bothering to attempt to contact me for resolution. Sometimes negative feedback is left without an attempt to resolve the issue.
