I just found out that there use to be a stamp club based upon my eccentric thematic collection!Unfortunately, it no longer exists. Now I am in search of when it existed, where they were based, if any former members are still alive, what did they collect, and if they had a newsletter/journal/publication??????? Anyone have any ideas on where to look?

I uncovered a little info on The Route 66 Philatelic Society of America. It was founded in 1993 in Flaggstaff Arizona by Bob Rosenbaum whom was the President. It was recognized by the APS in 1994 at ARIPEX. I am not sure when it dissolved and faded away. Bob is still living and he collects "1st day cancels" of Route 66 which would be the highways commissioning date November 11th, 1926. In addition to that he collected Advertising postcards, corner cards, covers with a Highway 66 address between 1926-1963 approx.

I hadn't thought about locating postal history with a 11/11/26 postmark, but I may look into it later.

Thanks Rod. I took a full week off of stamp collecting and for the most part the internet to focus on some home improvements. My general collecting has taken a backseat to my topical collections. I do enjoy uncovering new ways to expand my Route 66 collection and incorporate other areas of philatelia. It is also nice to find other like-minded collectors to bounce ideas off of.

londonbus,
Yes, I have his contact info from another Route 66 collector friend whom was contacted by Bob because of a letter sent to him in 1995 from my collector friend. I have already emailed him and will send him a letter just in case he doesn't read the email.

Edwin,
I have print #1976 of Ken Turmel's Route 66 and More. He is a retired postal carrier and has made 3 other large postmarkart works like that one. It is quite impressive when you think about the time, money, and mileage involved to acquire each town's PO cancel along 2400 miles across 8 states.

That piece of art was my inspiration to start my own postmark collection of Illinois section of Route 66 which has approx. 62 po's. I have about 30 more towns to go to complete my project and hope to do so by year end. Just a few months ago I completed the Kansas section which is 13.2 miles and 3 towns on 1 cover.
