I am beginning an "Elephants on stamps" list.

Appropriate contributions welcome....
Elephant images
Postcards with hephalants,
Ivory is OK, as long as hephalant ivory.
anything that is appropriate or in context to
the pachyderm. (I think Mammoths are OK )

Elephants are large land mammals in two genera of the family Elephantidae: Elephas and Loxodonta. Three species of elephant are living today: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant and the Asian elephant (also known as the Indian elephant). All other species and genera of Elephantidae are extinct.

Posters who supply the correct catalogue number to accompany their
scans will get secret and very honourable appreciation from SCF members.

I am thinking perhaps about 100 stamps with an image
of an Elephant aboard.?

Laotian Elephants.

Laos, SG#104.

Surcharged and overprinted on SG#79 for World Refugee Year 1959-60.

A short story. [oh No! I can hear you say!]

I was in Laos illegally for a day in 1989. It was an excursion of a lifetime and I saw stamps !
I was taken over by boat from Northern Thailand to visit a small village on the other side of the Mekong River. My guide spoke some English and I was told not to take a camera.
It was lovely day and one old man in the village had a Stamp Collection and I saw some lovely Laotian Stamps. I was not collecting at that point but remembered the Elephant set from my childhood.
Later, when I started to enjoy stamps again, Laos was one of the first countries I collected, because of this visit to the village !

I had the Elephant set SG#74-80, but they have since been sold on as I no longer collect the stamps of the Kingdom of Laos.

Should you decide to include cinderellas (i.e. Christmas Seals), I've always liked this 1961 issue from Rhodesia and Nyasaland:

Great Elephants !

Rod, here are some more from Laos .
It appears I had another set.....or almost another set !

Only six values here, but the missing value is the one shown earlier with the overprint!
What luck!

(Things that brings displeasure....you type a huge reponse
then your internet connection drops out.....grrr)

Thanks Guys,
fantastic,
have not had time to load any of my own.

LondonBus. Nice Laotian, I used to travel inside Laos every six months
whilst living in Thailand, the border is a very nasty place,
everyone looks at you sideways and the hawkers can become violent.

Inside Loas is extremely beautiful, well worth the hassle.

You posted a laotian temple some time back,
that resides in my Top 10 stamps of all time.
