Once a year, an "Elephant Festival" is held in Laos. Its goal is to raise awareness of the need for action to protect the Asian elephant as part of the vital cultural and natural heritage of Laos. The festival is organized by Elephentasia organization that works toward the protection of Asian Elephant. On January 14, 2008, Laos issued a set of six stamps and SS depicting the festival held in Paklay, Sayaboury Province:
