I don't think so, it is very hard for the "to and froms", to win on a Perth pitch. Melbourne will be different. The body language of the English team was a disappointment for me and a chink in their armour. This time I hope Aust selects a front line spinner.

Thanks John :) I don't have that image in my album. You must be the go-to man for current Aust.

Rod do you know anything about Peter Beer. Possibly our next test spinner. I think, he has not had too many 1st class games. A bit like the way Warnie started off. John |

Absolutely nothing at all John. Last game didn't take a wicket, I hear. Sorry. July 1867 Mourning cover to Miss Neill Reid whose only address is "near cricket grounds" Launceston Tasmania Laid paper cover, on left you can see where the stamp has disappeared. |

The Poms in 1861 An England cricket team toured Australia in 1861–62. This was the first-ever tour of Australia by any overseas team and the second tour abroad by an English team, following the one to North America in 1859. The idea for the tour came from the English proprietors of a Melbourne company called Spiers and Pond, which ran the Café de Paris in the city. Spiers was Felix William Spiers and Pond was Christopher Pond. Their representative in England, a Mr Mallam, had tried to interest Charles Dickens in a lecture tour of Australia and New Zealand but without success. Instead, having noted the success of the 1859 venture and the growing popularity of cricket in Australia, Spiers and Pond decided to attract a team of leading English cricketers. Mr Mallam therefore journeyed to Birmingham in September 1861 to watch the North v. South game at Aston Park. During the game, Mallam met the cricketers at the nearby Hen and Chicken Hotel to make a business proposal. As a result, twelve players agreed to tour Australia next winter on terms of £150 per man plus expenses. |

Thanks 22crows. My hearing is not the best. He is a totally new name for me! Anyway lets hope he can bowl. All the best for him. If anyone gets runs or wickets or both they could be in the test stage for some time. |

Cricket does not enjoy the popularity in the U.S. that it does in much of the rest of the world. However, I have followed this post and at least learned a little about the game. In researching I found the only U.S. cricket legend, Jiminey Some posts give a glimpse into the mind of the writer, this one probably presents a panoramic view. Best of luck to evrybody's favorite team |
