The United Nations General Assembly designated 1983 as the World Communications Year. Its purpose is to facilitate worldwide development of communications policies and infrastructures.
The stamp design shows a touch-tone telephone keypad, a handset, and a list of international destinations.

"Children's telephone," a semi-postal (charity) stamp designed by Danish illustrator and cartoonist Ib Spang Olsen (1921-2012), engraved by Arne Kühlmann (1939- ), and issued by Denmark on June 6, 1991 to benefit Børns Vilkår, a children's welfare organization, Scott No. B76, Facit No. 1032.
