Here are images of the two stamps in a set honoring workers in the Sagunto Steel Works, Valencia, who were subjected to repeated air raids during the Spanish Civil War (150 people died in the raids), printed by photogravure (Oliva de Vilanova), and issued by Spain on August 9, 1938, Scott Nos. 604 & 605. - nethryk Steelworkers pouring molten metal.  A sculpture entitled "Suicides of Sagunto" (1888) by Spanish sculptor Agustí Querol I Subirats (1860-1909), "repurposed" to represent the air raid victims, with steelworks in the background, plus a photo of the original sculpture, now located in the Buenos Aires (Argentina) Botanical Garden.  |
