On March 8, 2007 Guernsey issued several booklets featuring native wildlife. One of the stamps issued on the "GY" local rate (32p) panes is the ivy bee (Colletes hederae). Ivy bees are pollinators, and they prefer ivy. These bees resemble honey bees, but they are smallish (10-13mm in length), and not closely related.

Ivy bees are solitary, and therefore they do not live in hives or colonies. However, they do tend to nest closely in burrows made in the soil.
