Switzerland First National Exposition February 1, 1939 inscribed in French, German and Italian, the three languages of the Swiss Confederation. Depicting the "Spiritual" life of a Swiss family.

This Japanese stamp was issued on July 22, 1999 to commemorate the centenary of the copyright system in the country. The central figure, holding a book, represents a copyright researcher.

The top figure shown is the copyright applicant or holder, and the bottom one is a copyright inspector.

Berlin issued this stamp (Mi. #731) to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the death of Wilhelm von Humboldt. The artwork for the stamp depicts a closeup view of a statue of Humboldt by Paul Otto (1846-1893). Statue is shown below.

From Wikipedia, "Friedrich Wilhelm Christian Carl Ferdinand von Humboldt (1767-1835) was a Prussian philosopher, linguist, government functionary, diplomat, and founder of Humboldt University of Berlin, which was named after him in 1949 (and also after his younger brother, Alexander von Humboldt, a naturalist)."

Between June 21 and November 17, 1967 Berlin issued a set of six stamps of different values showing cultural masterpieces in the city. The 30 pf value (Mi #305) was issued on November 17, and it depicts a close-up view of the wood-carved sculpture "Mark the Evangelist" by Tilman Riemenschneider.

And, from Wikipedia, "Tilman Riemenschneider (1460-1531) was a German sculptor and woodcarver active in Wuerzburg from 1483. He was one of the most active and versatile sculptors of the transition period between the Gothic and Renaissance, a master in stone and limewood."

On August 31, 1994 Singapore issued a set of four stamps to commemorate the 175 anniversary of modern Singapore. The left side of each stamp shows old (traditional) ways and the right side shows contemporary scene. The 20c stamp (S.G. #770) features education.

Germany issued this stamp on February 7, 2002 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the birth of writer Adolph Freiherr von Knigge (1752-1796). The title page of von Knigge's About Dealing with People is depicted.

On August 25, 1987 the DDR issued this souvenir sheet (Mi. Block 88) for the Leipzig Fall Fair. The 40 pf and 50 pf stamps within the sheet show an early 19th century bookseller and customers at his street stand.

The 10 kr value (Facit #971) of Norway's October 4, 1985 set of two commemorating the bicentenary of the Deichman Library and public libraries in Norway, depicts the interior of a modern (1985) library including a father reading from a book to his young daughters.

On April 26, 1980 Belgium issued a set of two EUROPA stamps with Renaissance-era paintings of historical figures. The 9 fr value (Sc #1052) shows St. Benedict of Nursia, sans beard.

This March 28,1966, 3 franc stamp of Belgium publicizes the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR).

From Wikipedia, "The Royal Library of Belgium is the national library of Belgium. The library has a history that goes back to the age of the Dukes of Burgundy (Habsburg sovereigns of the Low Countries). In the second half of the 20th century, a new building was constructed in central Brussels, near the Central Station."

Here is the Netherlands's 1998 stamp commemorating the bicentennial of The Royal Library of the Netherlands (KB).
