Here is the 75c value (Sc #C547) from Costa Rica's December 7, 1972 four-stamp set commemorating the International Year of Books. This stamp and the 20c are of identical design, showing the first book ever published in the country (1830). The other two values depict the National Library. From ticotimes.net (April 27, 2014), "In 1830, Costa Rica received a remarkable gift from Philadelphia: a printing press. Until then, all documents had been handwritten, and not a single book or pamphlet had ever been published on Costa Rican soil."  |

On December 21, 1987 Brazil issued this 7 cruzado stamp (Sc #2124) to commemorate the 400th anniversary of The Descriptive Treaty of Brazil by Gabriel Soares de Souza. From ehrafworldcultures.yale.edu, "It was written in the second half of the sixteenth century by a Portuguese who resided in Brazil for a long time. It is a complete description of the colony from the geographical, botanical, zoological and anthropological points of view."  |

On August 23, 1968 Chile issued a two stamp set commemorating Jesuit Juan Ignacio Molina (1740-1829) as the "first scientific Chilean". The one escudo value (Sc #C282) of the set depicts Molina and his Natural History of Chile (1787).  |
