This 60c value (SG #804) from Singapore's June 21, 1995 set of 4 stamps commemorating the 50th anniversary of the end of the Second World War depicts Lord Louis Mountbatten (1900-1979) accepting the Japanese surrender of Singapore.

From wikipedia, "In August 1943, Mountbatten became Supreme Allied Commander Southeast Asia Command and oversaw the recapture of Burma and Singapore by the Japanese."

Here is Hungary's July 28, 1955 two forint stamp (Sc #1139) recognizing Hungarian poet Attila Jozsef (1905-1937).

From wikipedia, "Generally not recognized during his lifetime, Jozsef was hailed during the communist era of the 1950s as Hungary's great 'proletarian poet' and he has become the best known of the modern Hungarian poets internationally."

On September 26, 1996 Canada issued this 45c stamp (Sc #1617) commemorating Quebec lawyer, economist and academic Edouard Montpetit (1881-1954).

Here is Great Britain's July 10, 1990 20p stamp (SG #1506) commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of novelist and poet Thomas Hardy (1840-1928). Stamp shows Hardy, his signature and Clyffe Clump, Dorset. Clyffe Clump was referred to by Hardy in many of his novels and several of his poems.
