This 2003 Spanish stamp commemorates the birth centenary of writer Max Aub. Aub emigrated from Europe to Mexico in 1940 during the Franco regime.

From Wikipedia, "Max Aub Mohrenwitz (June 2, 2903 Paris - July 22, 1972 Mexico City) was a Mexican-Spanish experimental novelist, playwright and literary critic. In 1965 he founded the literary periodical Los Sesenta (The Sixties) with editors that included the poets Jorge Guillen and Rafael Alberti...In 1972 he was elected Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et Lettres by the French Government."

Here is an image of a stamp featuring a profile portrait of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš (1813-1851), commonly referred to simply as Njegoš, a Prince-Bishop of Montenegro, poet and philosopher whose works are widely considered some of the most important in Serbian and Montenegrin literature, designed by P. Gavranić, engraved by Tanasije Krnjajić, and issued by Yugoslavia on December 22, 1951 to commemorate the centenary of Njegoš's death, Scott No. 342, plus an image of the only known photograph of Njegoš, taken shortly before his death by Anastas Jovanović in the summer of 1851.

Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), known by his pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, humorist, entrepreneur, publisher, and lecturer. He was lauded as the "greatest humorist the United States has produced," and "the father of American literature". His novels include The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (1876) and its sequel, the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), the latter often called "The Great American Novel". Here is a stamp shows Clemens issued by the USA in 1940:

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is an 1876 novel by Mark Twain about a young boy growing up along the Mississippi River. In the novel Tom Sawyer has several adventures, often with his friend Huckleberry Finn. Originally a commercial failure, the book ended up being the best selling of any of Twain's works during his lifetime. Here is a stamp issued by the USA on October 13, 1972 shows Tom Sawyer whitewashing the fence:

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a novel by Mark Twain. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, the narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective) and a friend of Tom Sawyer. It is a direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. Here is a stamp issued by the USA on October 23, 1993 shows illustration from the book The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn:

Katherine Anne Porter (1890 – 1980) was an American writer. She became an elected member of the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1943 and taught at several universities between 1948 and 1958. She received Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and National Book Award (1966) for her book The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter. Her 1962 novel Ship of Fools was the best-selling novel in America that year.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807 – 1882) was an American poet. His poetry collections include Voices of the Night (1839),Ballads and Other Poems (1841), The Belfry of Bruges and Other Poems (1845), The Seaside and the Fireside (1850), The Courtship of Miles Standish and Other Poems (1858), Flower-de-Luce (1867), The Masque of Pandora and Other Poems (1875), In the Harbor (1882), and others. He was the first American to translate Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy.

Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (1896 – 1953) was an American author who lived in rural Florida and wrote novels with rural themes and settings. Her best known work, The Yearling, about a boy who adopts an orphaned fawn, won a Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1939 and was later made into a movie of the same name. Some of her other work include Cross Creek, Jacob's Ladder, The Secret River.

Richard Wright (1908 – 1960) was an American author of novels, short stories, poems, and non-fiction. Much of his literature concerns racial themes. Literary critics believe his work helped change race relations in the United States in the mid-20th century. His notable works include Uncle Tom's Children, Native Son, Black Boy, The Outsider, and The Color Curtain.
