A piece of paper that looks like a stamp (perforated generally)
but is not produced to officially carry mail.
Hope that helps.

What is Cinderella

What Phil Rod said plus:

A label that looks like a beautiful stamp and is a beautiful thing to it's collector.

A word play on the tale of Cinderella, a girl covered in ashes from the fireplace, looking and being considered worthless, but being transformed into a beautiful Princess by her true love or the love (kiss) of a Prince. A rather romantic view of what some postage stamp only collectors view as being beyond the pale or not worthy of consideration of being collected.

Especially beloved by thematic collectors as the ciderellas or cindys can add much enjoyment and sometimes understanding to a topic not perhaps fully covered by the postage stamps.

In addition to what was said above, Rod222 posted this in another thread. I thought it appropriate to add it here, too as it's one of the best descriptions I've seen as to the various types of "stamps" that are commonly considered "cinderellas":

@Phil - The Minnesota Stamp Expo (2011), just a week ago. Got a free year of membership to AAPE (http://www.aape.org/).

I did poorly, but it was a great learning experience. I now have a good idea of what makes a good exhibit.

My next exhibit will be called, "The Men of the Panama Canal: Men on the Definitive Postage Stamps of the Canal Zone 1928-1978" (I am not being sexist, as no women were portrayed on Canal Zone definitive stamps).

We will see if I can get it together in time for Chicagopex (Nov 2011). I have most of the material I need, but still need to pick up some covers.

Actually, I have had won Large Vermeil & Gold Medals for my collection of Egypt (King Fuad Issues).

So, I would like to share with you my 2 cents experience if you allow me.

- It is advisable to visit F.I.P (Fédération Internationale de Philatélie) website to give you some useful ideas about how to exhibit:

http://www.f-i-p.ch/regulation/pdf/Them_Srev.pdf

- You can also refer to the below links for simple introductions of Stamps Exhibition:

http://www.hongkongpoststamps.com/e...de/index.htm

- There is an exhibit relating to "Panama Canal" that you can pay it a visit:

http://www.japhila.cz/hof/0529/index0529a.htm

Hope I could be of a little help & BEST of luck!

Cheers

Smauggie you had the courage and conviction to display what you are proud of..thats better than most of us ! I have a friend who exhibits covers of the Prisoner of War Camps of Canada..but his personal and financial situation is a bit different than mine...a cover from one of the smaller camps that might have been in existance only a short time can be $,$$$..but if he feels he needs it to complete an exhibit !!

Wow -- then I already own a Cinderella! I am not sure where it is this second, but it is a US Boys Club(?) (or Boy Scout?) Christmastime sticker from the mid-20th century. I spent a long time trying to find it in Scott's (then it could be a stamp printed without its price and worth a few hundred thousand :-) but alas ...).

Is there a way to find out more about those particular stickers?
