From 13 June until 11 July 1982, Spain hosted the finals of the FIFA World Championship. To celebrate the event, Correos, Spain's postal services, issued a total of 10 special stamps.

Qualification matches started in 1980. On 23 May 1980, Correos issued the first two stamps celebrating "España 1982." The stamps had face values of 8 and 19 pta (pesetas). The 8 pta stamp (Edifil 2570) depicts an action during a football game with players from two teams and a referee. The 19 pta stamp (Edifil 2571) depicts the official match ball for the finals against a background made up of corner flags. The inscription 'ESPAÑA '82' on the latter stamp has the colours of the Spanish flag.

NSK, Great write up. One question - I thought the Jules Rimet Cup was won permanently by Brazil in 1970 and what would have been displayed in 1982 would have been the FIFA World Cup. Is this incorrect?
