Thought I'd give you all a peek at my small Malawi collection (sorry 'bout the bad pics, scanner is broken so my camera is all I have). Why an obscure little country like Malawi? Well, back in the seventies my mom's uncle, who was a catholic priest, was a missionary there. When he was back in the Netherlands for a while he found out I collected stamps and he promised me he would send me a package when he returned to Malawi. He kept his promise and we started writing each other letters. He told me about life in Africa and the stories about the stamps he enclosed, and I gushed over the stamps and told him how the family was doing. Eventually he came back home to retire (he died about fifteen years ago), but I always kept the Malawi stamps separate from the rest of my collection. Have been toying to make a real album for them and make collecting Malawi as one of my 'projects'. Check out the sheet at the bottom: that's indeed writing on it. My mom's uncle probably thought: as long as I don't write on the stamps itself... And the chess set is particularly special for me: I inherited a handcarved chess set made in Malawi from my grandpa (the priest's brother).
