Netherlands Max Euwe April 3, 2001 Machgielis "Max" Euwe, PhD (1901 – 1981) was a Dutch chess Grandmaster, mathematician, and author. He was the fifth player to become World Chess Champion (1935–37). Euwe also served as President of FIDE, the World Chess Federation, from 1970 to 1978. The stamp designs show his decisive chess game against Alexander Aljechin in 1935.  |

Here are images of the two stamps (the second of which is airmail) in a set depicting chess pieces (respectively, rook & knight; pawn & bishop), printed by lithography, and issued by Dominican Republic on June 23, 1967 to commemorate the 5th Central American Chess Series, held in Santo Domingo, Scott Nos. 636 & C152. Note: I have no idea why there is a cowled swordsman also depicted on the airmail stamp! - nethryk  |

Sonic the Hedgehog is the title character of a video game series which was first released in 1991. Mario is a fictional character in a video game series created by Nintendo. The first game was released in 1981.  |
