Saw June Carter's version of the Carter Family at the Mean Fiddler in Lindon in 1987, complete with guest appearance by Johnny Cash. I'm not sure the stamp's dayglo effect was wise! |

Royal couples are everywhere. Looking for another item from 1939, I ran into the following from Romania. Nethryk already had highlighted this couple, King Carol and Queen Elizabeth and posted the Scott 479 from 1939. Here is another, Scott 487, showing them as old folks. Here are two 'civilians' who were the first Cypriot photographers: Ahmet (1874-1959) and Ismet [nee Hanim)(1884-1957) Sevki. Married 1899. They appear on a joint stamp and then Ahmet alone. This was issued in 1998 by North Cyprus, otherwise known as Mersin 10, Turkey because the occupation of northern portion of Cyprus in 1974 by Turkey is not recognized internationally, including by the Universal Postal Union. I lack a Scott number, but they are SG # 459, 460. |

Yikes, Queen Sirikit has a big smile that looks forced. And King Bhumibol has this look in his eyes directed at her, and he's holding a sickle with an unnatural grip....

My guess would be that this pose might be the first time the king has ever held a sickle, or any tool of labor. |
