Hi Cjd,

I could not be sure 100% about the origin of the cancel on your first stamp, I can identify a "L" or "1".

Could be a registration mark, reference here : http://marcophilie.org/mqp-marque-e...iquette.html , but not sure.

Regards.

Billys.

Hi Wadmalatz,

Could not identify the CDS on first stamp, its a France one SC#98.
Second stamp is Sc#43 from "Guadeloupe" "Le Moule" here :

Second post is a very nice dotted star from Paris with number "1" post office.
Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/losange-etoile-01.html

Regards.

Here are two `losange`, the first is `FN2`. The closest find leads to the `losanges des bureaux de quartier supplémentaires`, somewhere here:
http://marcophilie.org/x/x-los-i.html
still cammot find this combination (closest is FS2).

second (Ceres) seems PCN (or maybe PGN...-and perhaps a missing O = Paris Gare de l`Ouest)?

Here is the reference I found about these stamps :
http://marcophilie.org/oblamb2.html

It's in the classification "Losanges lettres bâtons des ambulants"

First one is cancelled "FN2" for Forbach to Nancy 2nd run & second stamp is "PCN" means Paris to Caen.

Regards.

I am love, love, lovin' this information. I have so many french stamps to sort through and always find them so interesting and intriguing. Even my teenage daughter, who has no interest in collecting, saw a few French stamps today, and said, "wow mom, pretty stamps". Maybe a future collector? I know this is all going to be a new distraction to me, but if I have to be distracted, what a way to go! Thanks for all the pictures and info. Keep it coming!

Hello again,

First of all many thanks to AnthonyUK who has initiated this thread and given me the opportunity to show few French stamps of my classic collection .

Here is a dotted lozenge big numbers with the letter "F" in a circle, it's a Sc#58 cancelled at Douarnenez (lozenge 1335) :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/mar-bq-10.html

Another Sc#58 cancelled with a lozenge small numbers "4050" which is scarce for this stamp (it must be big numbers on perf French stamps), so that's what we call in France "petits chiffres des gros chiffres" :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/b4.html

Another scarce cancel on a pair of Sc#58, an anchor for maritime usage on boats before arrival in France :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/los-ancre.html

Another maritime CDS on this Sc#58 "Bateau à vapeur" = steam boat from "Philippeville" :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/tad-avec-men...p-ville.html

Last one for today is a wavy circle line CDS from "Moulis", it's a conveyor stations (postman was aboard trains), quite rare on stamps :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/tad-convoyeu...on-1866.html

Regards.

When you say scarce for different cancels are you referring to a catalogue or list? If so, what is the name of it please, for those of us who do not have it or know?

Hi Puzzler,

When a CDS is rare I mention it, for example in my last post the anchor cancel multiplies the CV of the stamp by 30.

This is indicated in some catalogues, I use the Dallay, it's not equivalent to the Scott Specialized but it's more detailed than Yvert & Tellier.
Here is a scan regarding the Sc#58 :

However, for more detailed lists you have them in the reference site (example list of dotted lozenge with small & big numbers):
http://marcophilie.org/los-pc.html
You have to click on a small button "Liste complète des PC".

For value of each there are many other books, like "Bleus de France" from "Henry Blot" Ceres editions (the one I use is written on 1964).

Hope it helps.

Regards.

Billys.

Thank you for the explanation. I had not seen a catalogue price cancellations or assign rarity factors before now.

Hi all,

Here is a nice mute (no numbers) dotted star on Sc#78, it is a new year cancel :

Now another cancel on Sc#78, it's also a new year cancel :

Reference site is here : http://marcophilie.org/mqp-jour-de-...-numero.html

Always on Sc#78, a red cancel for newspaper distribution (probably coming from a wrapper) :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/tad-journaux-18xx.html

Another small cancel, used by post administration to control postmen's tour, here on Sc#92 with letter A 2 times :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/mqp-boites-rurales.html

Last one is a new year cancel with no identification of date of postage, on Sc#82 :

Hi all,

Continuing this thread with some odd shapes of cancels, here is one from Paris with octagonal external CDS, announcing an exceptional levy, note the letter "E" in centre of CDS, on Sc#103 :

Here is the reference : http://marcophilie.org/tad-octogona...nnelles.html

Another one on pair of Sc#14 with a circle "OR" = Rural Origin :

The reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/mqp-origine-rurale.html

Almost same shape but with pearled circle "OL" Local Origin on Sc#103 :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/mqp-origine-locale.html

This one was used on first France stamps, is a dotted lozenge with serif letters ("type romaine"), usage only in Paris:

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/los-paris-bu...uartier.html

Other cancels has been issued for special dates, like the Paris universal exposition of 1900 :

Reference is here : http://marcophilie.org/tadmec1.html

Thanks for your interest.

Regards.

Billys.
