Trains On Stamps

I went trough the entire 31 page thread- what a gold mine ( or should I say coal hopper ) of information.

As payback, here are some train/railroad stamp images that I don't think have been yet shown.


Peru 1871 Scott 19 5c scarlet "Locomotive and Arms"

This embossed 1871 imperforate (known as the "Trencito") is considered one of the very first commemorative stamps produced. The occasion was the 20th anniversary of the completion of a railroad line between Lima and Callao, the first railroad in South America.

Edit: Actually not true- as was stated before the first rail line in South America was in British Guyana in 1848....

For the 10th anniversary of the reign of Reza Shah Pahlavi of Iran in 1935, a nine stamp pictorial issue was released showing infrastructure advancements.

By 1939, the Trans-Iranian Railway from the Caspian Sea to the Persian Gulf was opened. It crossed the 7,000 foot pass between Tehran and the Caspian Sea. The railway had more than 3000 bridges and 126 tunnels through the Zagros Mountains.

Turkey 1939 Scott 830 6k chestnut "Locomotive"

For Turkey, the completion of the railway link from Silvas to Erzurum of the Ankara-Erzurum Railroad was celebrated with a four stamp 1939 issue.

Nicaragua 1932 Scott C68 20c blue green
"El Nacascola"

In Nicaragua, the opening of the Rivas Railroad between San Jorge to San Juan del Sur on December 18, 1932 was the reason for this five stamp lithographic issue on soft porous paper. These air post stamps were printed in sheets of 4, without gum. The stamps are poorly rendered in my view.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a steam locomotive emerging from El Túnel de La Quiebra ("The Tunnel of Bankruptcy"), designed by Hungarian artist Imre von Mosdóssy (1904-1995), printed by lithography (De La Rue de Colombia), and issued by Colombia on November 27, 1974 to commemorate the centenary of the Antioquia Railway, Scott No. 824.

What is wrong with these trains - easy answers

Here are images of the three airmail stamps in a set depicting historic railway equipment used in Madagascar, designed and engraved by Cécile Guillame, and issued by Malagasy on June 7, 1974, Scott Nos. C126-C128, plus a couple of relevant photos.

Garratt 0-6-2 steam locomotive, built by St. Leonard, Liege, in 1925.

Paraguay - no wooden ties to spike tracks to.

Poland - don't know.

Belgium Congo - no wheels on train.

United States - smoke is blowing one way and flag is blowing the opposite way - strange wind.

The TGV 001 (Train à Grande Vitesse 001) was an experimental gas turbine-electric locomotive-powered trainset built by Alstom in 1969, and tested in 1972. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Turbotrain TGV 001, designed and engraved by Claude Haley, and issued by France on August 31, 1974, Scott No. 1392, Y&T No. 1802, plus a photo.

Here is an image of an engraved stamp depicting a steam locomotive emerging from a tunnel, designed by Brazilian artist Bernardino da Silva Lancetta, and issued by Brazil on July 8, 1977 to commemorate the centenary of the São Paulo - Rio de Janiero railway line, Scott No. 1512.
