Sri Lanka Commissioning of the Randenigala Project October 31, 1988 The Randenigala Dam is a large hydroelectric embankment dam at Rantembe in central Sri Lanka. The dam and power station was ceremonially opened in 1986. The power station has an installed capacity of 126 MW.  |

Federation of Malaya Inauguration of Cameron Highlands Hydroelectric Plant June 28, 1963 Cameron Dam is on the Perak River about 160 km north of Kuala Lumpur. The 100 MW Sultan Abu Bakar hydroelectric power plant started operation in 1963.  |

Bulgaria Five Year Plan Definitive Issue July 3, 1959 Studen Kladenets is a 67.5 m-high concrete gravity dam on the River Arda, 30 km southeast of the town of Kardzhali. The hydroelectric power station began operation in 1956 with 60 MW of installed capacity. An additional capacity of 17.3 MW was installed in 2009.  |

Ukraine Regions - Zaporizhia October 11, 2003 The Dnieper Hydroelectric Station, also known as Dneprostroi Dam, is the largest hydroelectric power station on the Dnieper River. The concrete gravity dam, 800 m long and 61 m high, began operation in 1932 with an installed capacity of 1569 MW.  |

Iran Karaj Dam May 15, 1962 Amir Kabir Dam, also known as Karaj Dam, is a concrete arch dam on the Karaj River in the Central Alborz mountain range of northern Iran. The 180 m high, 390 m dam was completed in 1961 for freshwater supply, irrigation, and hydroelectricity. The power plant has an installed capacity of 90 MW.  |

Bulgaria Vasil Kolarov Dam May 16, 1952 Golyam Beglik Dam (formerly Vasil Kolarov Dam) is a reservoir near the central parts of the Rhodope Mountains in Bulgaria. The gravity dam was built for freshwater storage, and the Golyam Beglik reservoir became one of the main tourist destinations in the region of Batak.  |

Turkey The 60th Year of General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works March 22, 2014 Deriner Dam is a concrete double-curved arch dam on the Çoruh River 5 km east of Artvin, northeastern Turkey. The main purpose of the dam is hydroelectric power production as well as flood control. The power station, with four 167.5 MW turbines, was commissioned in February 2013.  |

Costa Rica Electrical Industry April 24, 1967 The Cachí Dam is an arch dam on the Reventazon River north of Tapantí National Park, to the southeast of Cartago in Cartago Province. Built in the 1970s, it was one of the first hydroelectric projects in Costa Rica. It has an installed capacity of 102 MW with three units of Francis-type turbines. La Garita Dam is a gravity dam on Grande de Tarcoles River near the city of Alajuela. The hydroelectric power plant is equipped with two 64 MW Francis-type turbines.  |

Iran Shah Abbas the Great Dam September 22, 1971 The Zayanderud Dam, formerly known as the Shah Abbas the Great Dam, is an arch dam on the Zayandeh River about 10 km east of the town of Chadegan. The primary purpose of the dam is water supply to Isfahan which lies 88 km to the east. It also supports a power station with an installed capacity of 55 MW.  |

Venda Lakes and Waterfalls May 6, 1981 Nwanedi Dam is an arch dam on the Nwanedi River, part of the Limpopo River basin. The dam, 36 m in height and 110 m in length, was established in 1964 and serves mainly for irrigation purposes.  |

Kariba Dam is a double curvature concrete arch dam in the Kariba Gorge of the Zambezi river basin between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Here is an image of a stamp depicting the Kariba Dam, and the Zimbabwe Bird, designed by Rose Rigden, printed by lithography, and issued by Zimbabwe on August 21, 1985, Scott No. 504, plus a photo of Kariba Dam as seen from Zimbabwe. Southwest Africa Inauguration of Hardap Dam March 16, 1963 Hardap Dam is located in the Hardap Region of central Namibia, close to the town of Mariental. It was the largest dam in the country at the time of completion. The reservoir impounds the Fish River and is home to numerous variety of wildlife of Namibia.  |
