This is a definitive stamp issued in 2009 showing the Pigeon Orchid (Dendrobium crumenatum),
a wild orchid most commonly found in Malaysia & Singapore.
It's supposed to look like a flying pigeon from the sideview!

A Collector's Sheet showing the Pigeon Orchid was also issued.
The orchids on the stamp are in the form of actual embroidery flowers
(centre of the sheet). Hope this can be seen in the scan!

Thanks for showing your orchid stamps Carebear.

Here are some orchids of Costa Rica, from a MS of 10 stamps issued in 2007:

There are over 1400 species of orchids in Costa Rica. Some of them are found in other parts of South & Central America as well.
The Cattleya dowiana (bottom right stamp) is found on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica & Panama.

British Honduras 1953 "mountain orchid" (SG 190) the first of many orchid stamps from Br Honduras & Belize.

The orchid species name is not on the stamp so I think it is a generic name as there are some 300 orchid species native to Belize. The national flower is the Black Orchid (Prosthechea cochleata).

They are lovely, Scifi7. I think they are all Dendrobium orchids, my favourite is the Suree Peach.

The orchid on the 60c stamp, Laelia anceps, is endemic to Mexico, Guatemala & Honduras. The one on the 5c, Cypripedium calceolus, is a lady's-slipper orchid found in Europe, Asia & the Pacific.
Orchids are most profuse in tropical regions, but are actually found in most areas of the world including temperate & arctic regions.
