Wow, wish I had those covers Battlestamps! Those 7 stamps from each Malaysian state are a staple of any Malaysia collection I believe! PLease add all your orchid stamps philb! North Borneo optd Sabah issued 1964 (SG 414) shows an orchid plant (probably a Phalaenopsis type) grown in a coconut husk The Sabah opt was on a later De la Rue printing of the 1961 North Borneo recess engraved flora & fauna definitives (print Waterlow) |

This stamp is from Indonesia's Provincial Flora & Fauna miniature sheet issued in 2008. It shows the Dendrobium phalaenopsis orchid & a Moluccan King Parrot from Maluku province (the Moluccas Islands). |

The Orchis palustris in your French stamp fifia is a wetland or marsh orchid found in many regions of Europe. Here is an Orchid joint issue of Australia & Singapore from 1998 - "Representing" Australia are the Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis rostromii) and the Cooktown Orchid (Dendrobium phalaenopsis), the floral emblem of Queensland For Singapore, the Bamboo Orchid (Arundina graminifolia) native to Asia (from India to Malaysia & s.e.Asia) and the Tiger Orchid (Grammatophyllum speciosum) native to Malaysia, Indonesia & New Guinea There are wild Bamboo Orchid plants growing near my neigbourhood. |

A few of the wondrous orchid species found in New Guinea - 1998 Papua New Guinea set. Coelogyne fragrans, the Fragrant Coelogyne, grows on trees in forests at elevations of 100m to 2000m. Dendrobium cuthbertsonii grows at high altitudes (750m to 3500m). Dendrobium vexillarius var. retroflexum, aka the Flag-carrying Dendrobium (referring to the odd-shaped flowers). Dendrobium finisterrae, aka the End of the World Dendrobium, being from the Finisterre Mountains. |
