Southern Rhodesia. The seal of British South Africa appears to have two gazelles. And the gentleman on the right has a horn too.

Here is an image of a stamp depicting a European bison, or wisent (Bison bonasus), the largest terrestrial animal found in Europe, designed by Jozef Baláz, combined engraved by Jan Mrácek and photogravure, and issued by Czechoslovakia on September 25, 1959 as one of a set of five stamps commemorating the 10th anniversary of Tatra National Park, Scott No. 934, SG No. 1113.

The Plateau de Sologne, located southwest of Orleans and near the Loire river, is covered by a semi-natural forest with enclosures for a variety of animal species. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Red deer (Cervus elaphus) on the Sologne Plateau, designed by French artist Huguette Sainson (1929-2011), engraved by Claude Durrens, and issued by France on September 10, 1962, Scott No. 1334, Y&T No. 1725.

European Roe Deer (Capreolus capreolus) stamp from Estonia, issued on 16.02.2012




The deer is widely found throughout Europe, a relatively small deer well suited to cold environments.

The Sable Antelope (Hippotragus niger) inhabits wooded savannah in East Africa south of Kenya, and in Southern Africa. Here is an image of a stamp depicting a Sable Antelope, designed by painter and illustrator Rena M. Fennessy, printed by lithogravure (Harrison & Sons), and issued by Kenya on July 13, 1971, Scott No. 21, SG No. 227.
