Petróleos de Venezuela, S.A. is the Venezuelan state-owned oil and natural gas company. It has activities in exploration, production, refining and exporting oil, as well as exploration and production of natural gas.
Two of the commemorative stamps depict offshore drill rig (operated by the subsidiary Maraven) and an onshore oil well.

Not sure we've had these two GB stamps before.






The first was issued in January 1978 as part of a set of 4 on energy. It looks like the design is based on the Forties Alpha platform (operated by BP at the time). The second was issued in May 1983 as part of a set of 3 to celebrate British Engineering Achievements. It's the Iolair support vessel, an in-field fire-fighting and emergency vessel which also served in the Forties field before being sold on to work offshore Mexico.

One thing I'd not noticed before is that the Queen's head faces different directions on either stamp.

I also work in the oil industry and have supervised KGV Collector's blessed OD&E in Oman. Bigger rigs than yours, though: 2500 HP and 3000 HP but good for drilling holes nonetheless. They had just been bought over by Ensign but were still largely Australian management at the time. I'm currently lucky enough to be employed in the oil industry (drilling superintendent for a Major Operator) and am planning two wells to be drilled in Mongolia, spudding Q2 2017.
