Zheng He (1371- c. 1433) was a Hui court eunuch, mariner, explorer, diplomat, and fleet admiral during China's early Ming dynasty who commanded expeditionary voyages to Southeast Asia, South Asia, Western Asia, and East Africa from 1405 to 1433. Here are images of the four stamps in a set (respectively, a portrait of Zheng He; acting as peace envoy; promoting trade and cultural exchange; and honored for his navigational feats), printed by photogravure, and issued by China (PRC) on July 11, 1985 to commemorate the 580th anniversary of Zheng He's sea expeditions, Scott Nos. 1992-95.
João Gonçalves Zarco (c. 1390-1471) was a Portuguese explorer who established settlements and recognition of the Madeira Islands, and was appointed first captain of Funchal by Henry the Navigator.
