spanishmoss - Thanks! That's a great idea for a 4-H project, and I'm glad if some of my posts could be helpful to your son. Here is an image of a stamp depicting Admiral Yi Sun-shin (1545-1598), a Korean naval commander famed for his victories against the Japanese navy during the Imjin war in the Joseon Dynasty, equipped with a quiver full of arrows, designed by Pak Choon-kyo, printed by lithography, and issued by (South) Korea on October 1, 1949, Scott No. 113, SG No. 125. - nethryk |

Of course, some archers always aim for the heart: Here is an image of a semi-postal (charity) stamp depicting Cupid as a postman delivering a "love letter," designed by Austrian artist Victor Theodor Slama (1890-1973), engraved by Friedrich Teubel, and issued by Austria on March 10, 1952 for Stamp Day, Scott No. B278. - nethryk |

Archer, printed by photogravure, and (supposedly) issued for use in Tannu Tuva in July 1936, Scott No. 77. This stamp is surely CTO, intended for philatelic sales only. - nethryk |

Here's an update on my son's 4-H project that I mentioned in an earlier post. He decided to make a binder of archery stamps, souvenir sheets, and covers from around the world. We printed a small map at the bottom of each page and he colored the country from where the material came. He had a lot of fun searching for the stamps and even discovered several United States ones that I didn't know about. One is the breast cancer stamp that features Diana. On her back is a quiver of arrows. The other is 25 cent 1929 Pierce-Arrow stamp. He was shocked when he won the top award for the best project in Nature Science. The lady in charge said she couldn't remember a time when a shooting sport project had ever won. His project was also selected to go to the state fair. I was excited that something to with stamps got such great exposure! |
