Does anyone else collect the Bonne Annee 1920 stamps?
I recently discovered these and they are quite a mystery. There was a short book published in 1976 on these stamps by Michel Bonneau and Louis Granger titled "Les vignettes Bonne Annee 1920". It was a special supplement to the magazine "L'Arc-en-Ciel". The stamps, of which there are at least 119 different designs in multiple colours (I count a total of 338 different stamps), were printed by an unknown maker possibly in France, in 1919. Apparently, they were made to raise funds for the war-ravaged communities of the Munster Valley, in Alsace, France, and distributed by the local schools. The stamps are dated 1919 or 1920 (or both), have patriotic or Christmas/New Year slogans, and feature scenes from towns and villages, mainly from France, but also from Great Britain and other countries. I've found one article written by Francis Kiddle about the stamps featuring British towns (URL no longer active, unfortunately).
Here are a few examples I've found. If you have others, please feel free to share images. I'm hoping to put together a complete list of this interesting series of stamps.
