The 20pf. value of the D.D.R.'s June 25, 1985 "Wildlife Preservation" set of 5 stamps depicts the spectacled bear (Tremarctos ornatus), South America's only species of bear.

From Wikipedia, "...also known as the Andean bear, Andean short-nosed bear, or mountain bear...is the last remaining species of short-nosed bear.

Here is Bolivia's May 31,1991 set of 4 "World Wildlife Fund - Spectaled Bear" stamps. This animal, also known as the Andean bear (Tremarctos ornatus), is the last surviving species of the short-faced bears.

From wikipedia, "Its closest relatives are the extinct Florida spectacled bear and the giant short-faced bears of the Middle to Late Pleistocene age."
