Don't have any to add, but I do believe Spitsbergen is a Norwegian territory.

You can add "Birobidzhan," the Jewish Autonomous Oblast in Siberia, a legitimate place (see Wikipedia) but no authority to issue stamps.

There are several sets listed in this link. They all seem to be overprints on Russian stamps.

Spitsbergen is a Norwegian island, but before 1925 other nations claimed territory on the islands. Russian stamps for the use of the Russian coalminers were issued but not legally authorized.

Dug this Republic Buriatia cover out of a stamp show $1 box a few years ago.

There are 4 old SCF threads on this Russian area.

I have some Cindy Crawford stamps that purport to be from Kyrgyzstan and some Winona Ryder stamps that claim to be from the Republic of Abkhazia. Clearly not legitimate, and probably never existed within the borders of those regions.

I've been to Kabardino-Balkaria a number of times. The upper part of the state is home to Mount Elbrus. At 18,510', it is the highest mountain in Europe.
