Masks at Surva Festival
February 26, 1973
Kukeri or Surva Festival in the town of Pernik near Sofia, is the most spectacular "Kukeri" event in Bulgaria. The three-day event takes place in late January. Kukeri is a pagan Bulgarian tradition of Thracian origin in honor of god Dionysus.
The stamp set features the masks from the Elhovo region, Breznik region, Hisar region, Radomir region, Karnobat region, and Pernik region.
