Stamp collecting has been my passion for more than 60 years. monetary gain has never been my motive in this hobby. However, I have never lost any money when I sold my collections whenever I switch my interest from one country to another. The thrill of pursuing any stamp I want and the joy of finding and acquiring it is not measurable by any monetary units, whether it is gold or silver. Yes, I had investments in stocks and bonds and honestly I don't think I made much money. Enjoy your hobby and if it turns out to be a good investment, that is great. |

It is exciting to see a stamp story on a major network. Kudos to Bill Gross for drawing in the media via the charitable aspects of his stamp disposal. Stamps being a hot ten year return of 200+% (as cited in the MSNBC video) is interesting. It may draw many new speculator collectors into the area, but what was not mentioned is that return was only for certain stamps. Stamps are like every other asset class. There are winners, break even, and losers. At least though with stamps the fun and joy is a great hedge for a lower return! I am not aware of any loss stocks and bonds that can offer the same hedge of joy. |

Doctors have told me that there isn't a cure for me. I am a hard core stampaholic & postal historian.

While it would be nice to see attention like this draw more people to the hobby, I don't think we need another speculative run by get-rich-quick investors as occurred in the 70s and 80s. It's probably not MSN's style, but it might have been better if a more thorough and balanced article had been broadcast. |
