Café Hawelka is a traditional Viennese café located in the Innere Stadt in Vienna, Austria. It was opened by Leopold Hawelka in 1939. After 1955 the café quickly became a meeting point for writers and critics. |

Austria and the coffee house

The origin of the Viennese coffeehouse has become a legend: in 1683 left the Turks bags of green beans at the gates of Vienna. According to a popular legend soldier Jerzy Franciszek Kulczycki found these bags and opened the first café in the Vienna in a house the Blue Bottle. One day he mixed sugar and milk into the bitter brew and Wiener Melange was born. |

Black as night, hot as hell, pure as an angel, sweet as love. With those words, describing the French diplomat Talleyrand (1754-1838) his love for coffee. It's probably many who agree with him, with 400 billion cups drunk a year, coffee is the world's most popular beverage. The coffee came to Sweden in the 1700s, thanks to Charles XII, who took it home with them from Turkey. |
