Same topic as above, same year. Isreal's pigeon looks a little bit like a chicken, don't you think?

This is one of my favorites because it's the very first pigeon bringing a message, even in some pretty awful weather. And you can see, stamps date from very long ago indeed.

This is the only carrier pigeon I know of that was issued in embossed gold! It is also a peace dove, commemorating democracy in Greece (issued 2009).

Not only pigeons carry letters; Gannets (Morus bassanus) can as well; note the UPU monument and the year 1974 again.

Some birds prefer delivering mail on foot (Rallina eurizonoides).

The stamp for children (2006) shows Joshua the cat in his attempt to deliver letters to the family Schlumberger; he is even wearing his best postmaster's uniform. A modern story for children.

Here's another bird (possibly a pigeon), busy delivering letters. Bulgaria within the EUROPA series, 2008.

Here are images of a miniature sheet and the four similar stamps contained within it depicting an addressed envelope, a carrier pigeon, a globe, and a hand holding a quill pen, designed by Laotian artist S. Rodboon, engraved by Jean Miermont, and issued by Laos on September 7, 1966 to publicize "International Letter Writing Week," Scott Nos. 140a, and 137-140.

Jean Effel, pseudonym for Francois Lejeune (FL), (1908-1982) was one of France's most well known cartoonists. This stamp (on a maxicard) was issued in his honor and shows a very informal Marianne licking her envelope (1983).
(Hi Nethryk, I think your Laos stamps probably take first prize, an envelope on an envelope on a stamp!)

J. Effel

It's Saint Nikolaus Day in Europe today. His modern day representative, Santa Claus, still has Christmas mail from children all over the world to read.

Santa is very busy at this time of year, we all know that, but he does stay in touch with home by mail. Even Rudolf hasn't seen a post office like the one in Vanuatu!
