Spain's only computer-vended stamp of 1994 features an envelope before a globe. It was issued in September '94 and Michel catalogs it as #9. 200 million of them were printed, which speaks to the impact of postal facility downsizing in that country. This stamp is significant in that it is the last computer-vended stamp Spain produced without the large security "C" die cut through the middle of the label. |

I am guessing this little girl has her hand on some mail... but it is a strange looking mailbox and pretty low to the ground... is she instead using some sort of strange trash can?? |

Between 2003 and 2006, Spain issued six different series of computer-vended stamps to bring attention to some of its contemporary artists. One series featured Enrique Jimenez Carrero (born 1953). This December 2004 stamp shows Carrero's hyper-realist painting Letter From My Hometown, Plasencia. Within the painting, an envelope with stamps can be seen between the mantel and the framed painting. Label was sold from machine #1213 in Mazaricos, Galicia and cancelled in that same town of 5050 inhabitants. |

On July 1, 1979 Singapore issued a set of 2 stamps (S.G. #s 350-1) with the message of encouraging mailers to "Use the New Postal Code." Stanley Gibbons Malaysia & Singapore catalog notes, "The 50c design as is Type 116 (the 10c design) but the envelope is addressed to the Philatelic Bureau, General Post Office and has the post code 'Singapore 0104'." |

Japan started issuing "Letter Writing Day" stamps in 1979 to encourage people to continue corresponding with each other through the mails. One of these 2 stamps from 1979 is shown on page 6 of this thread. In 1995, Japan continued the yearly tradition and issued 2 "Letter Writing Day" stamps (Sc #s 2473-4) as shown below. They can be found in both a traditional sheet and a booklet (with straight edges) form, as well as a souvenir sheet of the "ostrich" stamp. |

Interesting security perforations on the Brazilian stamp. On October 19, 1984 Ireland issued this stamp (Sc. #602) to commemorate the bicentenary of the post office in Ireland. Shown is an 18th century postal marking, as well as an 18th century hand is passing a sealed, folded letter (the original envelope) to a 20th century hand. |
